It is also important that this first step is agreed upon with the child, as it might happen that they come across a toy they didn’t remember or thought was lost and are not ready to part with it. 

Secondly, it is important to classify the toys into different categories such as pretend play, board games, building sets, costumes, educational games… and place each category in a different box or compartment. We can use different colors or labels with the name or a drawing to know where each toy belongs. This way, they learn that everything has its place and save time when tidying up. We can take the opportunity to let their imagination run wild and have them decorate the box, basket, or “wrapping” where they will keep their toys themselves.
